Bolt is a Shop Pay alternative built for Salesforce Commerce Cloud. Shop Pay can be added to SFCC through Shopify's Shop Pay Wallet API, but its payments run on Shopify Payments and Shopify creates each order. Bolt installs through SFCC cartridges, keeps your existing payment processor, and adds a shared shopper network with optional fraud indemnification.
What Shop Pay on Salesforce Commerce Cloud involves
Shopify offers Shop Pay to large brands that aren't on Shopify as a Commerce Component, and pitches it to teams "using Salesforce, SAP, Magento, or a fully customized solution" [W2]. The integration runs through the Shop Pay Wallet API [S3][W1].
What you set up. Shopify's developer docs say you create a new Shopify store for the integration, complete the full Shopify Payments sign-up, and configure the Storefront API and GraphQL Admin API [W1]. Shopify's help center adds that your business must be eligible for Shopify Payments, be in a country or region where it's available, and collect the shopper's email before payment [S3]. You render a Shop Pay button where shoppers choose a payment method, and a Shop Pay login component near the email field [W1].
How orders and money move. Shopify processes Shop Pay payments with Shopify Payments and creates the order asynchronously. Your system stays the source of truth for cart, discounts, shipping, taxes and inventory, and reconciles each Shopify order and its fulfillment tracking. Captures, refunds and cancellations go through Shopify's GraphQL Admin API [W1]. In practice, Shop Pay orders run on a second payment and order stack next to SFCC and your current processor.
How Bolt runs on Salesforce Commerce Cloud
Bolt provides cartridges for three setups [B1]:
- SFRA V2. Bolt's hosted checkout replaces the native SFRA checkout.
- Composable Storefront. Headless PWA Kit storefronts add a React BoltCheckout component on top of the SFRA V2 plugin.
- Embeddable Checkout. You keep your own checkout and add Bolt account SSO, one-click login and payment methods. Requires SFRA v6.0 or later.
Bolt uses SFCC's Open Commerce API to show its button on cart, minicart and product pages [B1]. Bolt says Bolt account holders convert 50% better. Bolt launched its enterprise product on Salesforce AppExchange in October 2024, and says implementation typically takes between a few days and a few weeks [B2]. Payments run on your current processor or on Bolt Payments. Bolt maps each transaction to SFCC order statuses, and refunds and voids can be handled in your order management system or the Bolt Merchant Dashboard [B3].
Who each option fits
Shop Pay is likely the better fit if you:
- Want the Shop Pay button in front of shoppers who already have Shop Pay accounts. Shopify says the network has over 250 million customers [S3].
- Are eligible for Shopify Payments and willing to run Shop Pay orders through a separate Shopify store and Shopify's order and refund APIs [S3][W1].
- Have engineers to build and maintain the Wallet API integration on your checkout front end and back end [S3][W1].
Bolt is likely the better fit if you:
- Want a Salesforce Commerce Cloud cartridge for SFRA or PWA Kit, or want to keep your SFCC checkout and add Bolt login with Embeddable Checkout.
- Want to keep your payment processor. Bolt connects to processors such as Stripe, Adyen, Braintree, Authorize.net, CyberSource and Checkout.com as a gateway, on any platform.
- Want orders, refunds and voids to stay in SFCC and your existing order management, not in a second order system.
- Want fraud screening with chargeback indemnification from the same vendor. Bolt's Fraud Protection add-on provides indemnification of qualifying approved transactions that charge back as fraud, under your Bolt agreement.

Running Bolt and Shop Pay together
Bolt runs as the embedded one-click checkout on the email field. Shop Pay can stay on the same storefront as a separate express button. Shop Pay's login component is designed for the email field too [W1], so with Bolt there, Shop Pay runs as a button only. Both companies' conversion figures are self-reported, so test against your current checkout before committing.
