THE NEXT CHAPTER: USAGE-BASED BILLING

Price around the value your customers get.

An API call. An AI token. A change in storage. Subscriptions v3 connects what your customers consume to the way you bill.

01

Per-unit pricing

Include an allowance, then charge for additional units. A clear fit for API calls or token consumption.

02

Capped usage

Track a defined usage allowance without billing overage. Pair threshold notifications with your own product controls.

03

Graduated tiers

Price each block of usage at its own rate. Give customers a different marginal price as their usage grows.

04

Volume pricing

Use total consumption to select one rate for the full period. Keep your volume breaks explicit.

GIVE YOUR TEAM THE FULL PICTURE

More visibility. Fewer billing mysteries.

Bring the bill, the underlying usage, and the next action into one connected workflow.

SUBSCRIPTIONS V3 PREVIEW

See thresholds before surprises.

Usage-threshold events let your application notify customers or respond as they approach an allowance.

Make the bill explain itself.

Itemized invoices, downloadable PDFs, and payment links give customers a clearer path from usage to payment.

Follow through on collection.

Configure reminders and due dates. For usage invoices, overdue or written-off balances can pause renewal until payment or void resolves the block.

Keep teams and customers informed.

Meter and pricing configuration, usage reads, and invoice history support merchant and customer-facing workflows.

What can I use today, and what is in preview?

Recurring plans, checkout links, subscription management, and configured payment recovery are documented today. Usage-based billing, metering, rating, and the v3 invoice workflow are in development and require enablement. Contact our team to discuss availability.

Does capped usage mean a maximum invoice amount?

No. In v3, capped usage tracks an allowance with no metered overage charge. It does not set a dollar cap on a paid plan, and it does not automatically block product access. Your application decides what happens when customers reach the limit.

Can we bill for API calls or AI usage?

The v3 preview includes event types for API calls, AI token usage, and storage deltas. Meters aggregate eligible events, and supported charge models turn the resulting totals into usage charges at the end of the period.

Are the rates in this preview Bolt’s prices?

No. The calculator uses illustrative customer-facing rates to explain each billing model. It is not a Bolt pricing quote and excludes any recurring base charges and taxes.
