One-click checkout providers save a shopper's address and payment details and fill them in on later visits, usually after a one-time code. For US merchants the main options are Shop Pay, Fastlane by PayPal, Stripe Link, Amazon Pay and Bolt. The biggest difference isn't the button. It's what each one requires: a specific platform, a specific payment processor or a specific account network.
What "one-click" means in practice
Most of these products work the same way on the surface: the shopper enters an email or phone number, confirms a one-time code (some also accept a passkey), and sees saved details prefilled. Amazon Pay is the exception: shoppers sign in with their Amazon account. They differ in whose account the shopper uses, what you must already run (Shopify Payments, PayPal or Braintree, Stripe, or none of these), and what you get beyond autofill, such as fraud coverage or a hosted checkout.
Device wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Pay are tied to the shopper's device rather than a cross-merchant account, so they aren't covered here. Most stores offer them alongside any of these options.
Who each option fits
- Shop Pay is the natural default for stores on Shopify that use Shopify Payments. Shopify says Shop Pay is included with Shopify Payments, at Shopify Payments rates. Stores on other platforms can add it through Shopify's Shop Pay Wallet API, which requires the business to be eligible for Shopify Payments.
- Fastlane by PayPal suits merchants who already process cards with PayPal Complete Payments or Braintree and want a recognition step in their existing guest checkout without changing the rest of the flow. See Bolt vs PayPal Fastlane.
- Stripe Link suits merchants already on Stripe. Link works with Stripe Checkout, Payment Links, Elements and Invoicing, and Stripe says Link is priced the same as cards.
- Amazon Pay suits stores whose customers already shop on Amazon and who want a button that uses the shipping and payment details stored in the shopper's Amazon account.
- Bolt suits merchants on Adobe Commerce, BigCommerce, Salesforce Commerce Cloud or custom stacks who want one-click checkout without moving processors, plus hosted checkout, passwordless storefront accounts and optional chargeback indemnification from one vendor.
If you're on Shopify Payments, Stripe or PayPal processing, the matching option is usually the lowest-effort place to start.

How to choose
- Start with your processor. On Shopify Payments, Stripe or PayPal/Braintree, the matching option needs the least work. On another processor, or several, look at options that don't require a change.
- Decide how much of checkout you want managed. Fastlane and Link add recognition to a checkout you run. Bolt's Managed Checkout runs it for you.
- Ask who pays for fraud chargebacks. Every option here screens for fraud. Chargeback coverage differs: Shopify and Amazon Pay cover eligible fraud chargebacks at no added fee, while PayPal and Bolt offer coverage as a paid option. Get coverage terms in writing.
- Test with your own traffic. Every conversion figure in this category is vendor-reported. An A/B test on your store is the number that matters.
Switching, or running more than one
Most stores offer several fast-checkout buttons side by side, and that works. The email field is different: Fastlane, Link and Bolt each recognize shoppers from the email entered at the start of guest checkout, and a store can use only one of them there. Pick one for the email step. Button-style options such as Amazon Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay can sit alongside it.
Shopper profiles don't move between networks when you switch. Expect returning shoppers to create new accounts for a while, and measure new and returning-shopper conversion separately.
FAQ
What is a one-click checkout provider?
A service that stores a shopper's address and payment details and fills them in on later purchases, usually after the shopper confirms a one-time code. Shop Pay, Fastlane by PayPal, Stripe Link and Bolt work this way, and some also accept passkeys. Amazon Pay instead signs shoppers in with their Amazon account.
Can I use Shop Pay if my store isn't on Shopify?
Shopify says you can add Shop Pay to another commerce platform through the Shop Pay Wallet API. Your business must be eligible for Shopify Payments, and your checkout must collect the shopper's email before payment.
Do I have to change payment processors to offer one-click checkout?
For some options, yes. Link requires Stripe and Fastlane requires PayPal or Braintree card processing. Bolt can run on your existing processor or on Bolt Payments.
Which options include chargeback protection?
Shopify Protect covers eligible Shop Pay orders against fraudulent chargebacks at no extra cost, and Amazon Pay's Payment Protection Policy covers fraud-related chargebacks on transactions that meet its requirements. PayPal sells Chargeback Protection tools for its advanced card payments. Bolt's optional Fraud Protection provides indemnification of qualifying approved transactions that charge back as fraud, under your Bolt agreement. Check each one's eligibility rules.
Can I offer more than one option at once?
Partly. Only one of Bolt, Fastlane or Link can run on the email field, so pick one for that step. Button-style options such as Amazon Pay, Apple Pay and Google Pay can sit alongside it.
